LAST COPIES - BIT CHEAPER COZ OF DENTED SLEEVE CORNER (TRANSPORT DAMAGE)

mei zhiyong had been instrumental in arranging dp’s tour of china. when they first met in beijing in july 2014, mei spoke not a word of english and dp not a word of chinese. and they we were to embark on an 18 city tour together. verbal communication between was difficult to say the least, it would often result in comical misunderstandings, total puzzlement or bewilderment, but it would also be a source of constant amusement with wonderful moments of instinctive trust. but then there is sound, the ultimate language…

to return the favor, dp arranged a tour for mei and himself in october 2015 through 20 european cities. which is where the source material was recorded. dp then selected, dissected and transformed those recordings to work out something different, not just a collaboration, not just an amalgam of two styles, but something new for both. the compositions on this lp are the result.

about

mei zhiyong / 梅志勇 (*1984) pursues a physical form of sonic rapture, an explorative mind with the body as a tool pushing limits, seeking a liberating nothingness beyond logic, found in coarse actionistic or quietly manic outbursts, in dizzying electronic soarings or in following unknown traces in field recordings.
mei zhiyong also directs and shoots independent short films, works with photography and is part of the nojiji collective. he was born in shandong province and lives in changchung city, china.

dave phillips / dp (*1969), sonic activist, composer and performer, has been a purveyor of radical sound since the mid 80’s. he proposes the term “ritual protest music”.
solo works since 1987, with schimpfluch gruppe since 1991, with OHNE 2000 – 2008 and in many other projects. dp has developed an unique sonic language typified by sharp compositional techniques, immersive and cathartic sound rituals with strong existentialist / environmentalist connotations, and the concept of humanimal. dp lives in zürich, switzerland.

urbsounds is originally a collective with the main inspiration to traverse the borders between a decaying industrial society and the new wild east of information culture. for fifteen years urbsounds has been a closed circle of friends who were releasing music, organizing events, and participating in both the local and global experimental scenes.
in 2016 urbsounds opened up to become a platform/label that promotes artists across the world who share the understanding that music is an inherently political force of change, expressed via vinyl lp’s and digital releases.
miso, one of the label’s instigators, and dp first met in 2002, as miso organised a concert for OHNE in bratislava.
